What is a sports medicine specialist?

Sports medicine, also known as sports and exercise medicine, is a specialty of medicine that focuses on physical fitness and the treatment and prevention of injuries related to sports and exercise. Our team specializes in the treatment of injuries such as muscle, ligament, tendon, bone problems and much more. Sports medicine doctors also educate athletes on managing and preventing exercise/sports-related injuries. Our goal at Sideline Orthopedics is to help patients maximize function and minimize injury or disability related to sports and physical activity. Sports medicine specialists also serve as team physicians for local and/or national sports teams. Sports medicine physicians work closely with coaches and players by educating teams on proper warm-up techniques, injury prevention and making return to play decisions that are in the best interest of the patient or athlete.
