Shan Fairbanks, D.O.
Dr. Shan Fairbanks earned his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences at Averett University. While there he played on the football team and was part of the Cougars first Conference Championship. He continued his education at Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Virginia Campus in Blacksburg, where he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Fairbanks completed his intern year in general surgery at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, New York prior to finishing his residency in Family Medicine at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia. In addition, he completed his fellowship in Sports Medicine at VCOM/VT, where he served as a team physician for Blacksburg High School, Radford University, and Virginia Tech.
Dr. Fairbanks is excited to join Sideline Orthopedics where he can help the people of the New River Valley perform their best. He enjoys helping his patient’s prevent injury and live healthy lives whether that’s industrial or weekend warriors to young and mature athletes alike.
Dr. Fairbanks is a fully licensed and board-certified family physician and board eligible in primary care sports medicine. HIs specialties include non-surgical orthopedics, routine fracture care, splinting/casting, concussion management, basic sports nutrition, osteopathic manipulation therapy (OMT), diagnostic ultrasound, and ultrasound-guided musculoskeletal injections like platelet rich plasma (PRP). He also provides medical coverage for area high schools, Bluefield College, and Concord University.
In his free time, he enjoys hanging out with his wife and two children while playing on the Huckleberry Trail. He loves the mountain air and the New RIver Valley. His hobbies include attending or watching sporting events, deep sea fishing, and being a functional dance dad.
