DR. BART EASTWOOD
Dr. Bart Eastwood earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Nebraska Wesleyan University. He continued his education at Des Moines University, College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Eastwood completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Ohio University. In addition, he completed fellowship training in sports medicine at Indiana University, Methodist Sports Medicine, where he worked with University of Indiana, Purdue University and the Indianapolis Colts.
DR. DEREK BUCK, M.D., D.C.
Dr. Derek Buck joins Sideline Orthopedics and Sports Medicine as an Interventional and Spine Care Specialist. He studied general medicine at Ross University School of Medicine on the island of Roseau Dominica, which is located in the West Indies. His residency was in physical medicine and rehabilitation. In Richmond, Virginia, he completed his fellowship training in interventional spine.
JOHN VELYVIS, M.D.
John Velyvis, M.D. is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon, specializing in total knee, partial knee, and total hip replacement surgery. His medical degree is from Columbia University, Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Harvard University. He obtained his Fellowship certificate in Adult Reconstruction from the Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard University.
MATTHEW SHORTT, PA-C
Matthew Shortt is a physician assistant serving Blacksburg, VA, and surrounding communities in the New River Valley at Sideline Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. His special orthopedic interests include fracture care, joint injections, joint replacement, sports medicine and injury prevention.Mr. Shortt has been providing orthopedic care in the New River Valley for ten years and he feels honored to care for the patients in the community. He strives to treat all of his patients as if they are family by establishing a mutual trust and respect.
BETH ASHE, PA-C
Beth Ashe joins Sideline Orthopedics and Sports Medicine as a physician assistant serving patients located in Wytheville, Virginia and surrounding communities. She graduated summa cum laude in 2002 from the Physician Assistant Program at Jefferson College of Health Sciences, where she also made President’s List. Beth’s special orthopedic interests include sports medicine, total joints, and fractures, which are areas she has practiced in for 12 years.
